Fundamental Rights

The rights and privileges guaranteed to those fortunate enough to call Virginia and the United States home are too great to be threatened with omission. Bilal understands the lives and livelihoods of the varied communities of the Commonwealth, especially those most marginalized, must be not only protected but celebrated, for it is through both diversity and common ground that we find the definition of the American spirit.

As Delegate, Bilal will fight for you by:

  • Working directly with all parties involved to address the unnecessarily difficult process most individuals must undergo to gain access to basic healthcare.
  • Championing the Equal Rights Amendment.
  • Defending and protecting the singular right for women to have sole jurisdiction over their own bodies, as well as all subsequent issues stemming from this greater need.
  • Supporting the LGBTQ+ rights, including access to gender-affirming care and marriage.
  • Working to bridge the gaps between the disabled/differently-abled community and their access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
  • Supporting and introducing legislation that will guard historically disenfranchised demographics from further humiliation and will actively promote initiatives celebrating the richness of the Commonwealth’s multicultural makeup.
  • Addressing abhorrent overdevelopment practices that burn vital resources, and he will develop strategies to implement affordable housing initiatives in suburban and rural communities that do not compromise the character of said communities.
  • Partnering with worker unions and labor organizers to ensure that the labor force driving the Commonwealth has their needs adequately met, to guarantee job security and economic growth in favor of not only the employer but also the employed, and to eliminate predatory “right to work” mandates in favor of actively protecting the working class.
